Rising Tide Fair Trade – lifting up artisans
This past Valentine’s Day I got a delightful surprise – a gorgeous clutch from Rising Tide Fair Trade. The Everyday Clutch is part of their Zola & Zaria Collection which uses batiks, shwe-shwe prints, tye-dyes and wax prints sourced directly from markets around Sub-Saharan Africa and combines them with cruelty-free leather finishes to create a globally influenced, gorgeous accessory. Prices start at $65.00 USD and a large assortment are currently 20% off.
These weekender bags are from The Kantha Collection and are hand-crafted from vibrant vintage Indian cotton saris. The patterns are woven together with the finest kantha embroidery creating unique hand bags. Prices start at $220 USD and several are currently 32% off.
Virginia Dooley and Nicole Jones founded Rising Tide Fair Trade in 2004 on a business model with people and planet in mind. When possible, materials for the bags are purchased from local markets by independent business women or created from upcycled textiles and finished in cruelty free leather (from naturally deceased animals). Rather than using a system of mass production, Rising Tide Fair Trade bags are produced in a women’s cooperative, which has a lower impact on the environment. All bags are made one at a time by individuals paid a fair wage and treated with dignity and respect. Ships everywhere.
