Boutique of the Week – Shift, Conscious Clothing

Shift, Conscious Clothing is a boutique catering to women who crave beautiful clothing but also a connection to their clothes and the stories behind them.

Co-owners Amy DuFault (Fashion Editor of EcoSalon) and partner Amanda Converse employ designers that only utilize environmentally friendly fabrics. Thanks to a very open, working relationship with each label, they’re able to educate customers on each designer’s story, manufacturing processes and future collections.

Converse and DuFault also provide their customers with exciting opportunities to work with designers.

One recent (ongoing) project includes an exhibit with Alison Kelly, alumnus of Project Runway who re-created two dresses for a Shift exhibit on French designer Renee Marciel. Customers are currently able to order bespoke dresses from the exhibit and from Kelly herself.

Shift also likes to show women that with just a few multi-tasking pieces in their closet, they can create a number of outfits which in turn, saves them money.

That said, by helping customers make “conscious” choices, they also believe that those same pieces can transcend time through good design and proper fit.

Having opened just this past November, the boutique currently works with over 20 sustainable designers from the U.S., Canada, the U.K and Paris.  Each designer brings their own story to the puzzle that is Shift making it a haven for purveyors of sustainable, slow fashion.

Here are some of Amy and Amanda’s top picks right now in Shift:

Dahl Crochet Top

Made famous by resident designer Alison Kelly of Project Runway fame while on the show, this crochet and Peace Silk top is stunning with just about anything.

We were more than elated when she agreed to make the style just for us.

Prairie Underground Cloak Hoodie

Prairie Underground hoodies are staples in both Amanda and I’s closets. The most stylish hoodie going, the Cloak is easy to take care of, doesn’t fade and adds just the right amount of style to an otherwise laid back outfit.

Olsen Haus Grace heels

The faux suede and the blonded cork make this shoe one of our favorites for its Jekyll/Hydeishness.

We could’ve chosen this style in a few other colors but stuck with the grey for how much it will go with.

Rhonda Dress by Rebe

Summer is such a great time to dress light and go ultra feminine which is what this dress symbolizes to us. Add flip flops, sandals or heels and this dress will do whatever you ask of it.

Mika Machida Dandelion Skirt

I think a part of us wanted to open this boutique just to house Mika Machida’s designs. All her designs are made from organic cotton and use water based dyes and are simply unique.

We think everyone feels ultra special when they buy a piece of hers.

Taxi CDC Disco Dress

We love organic fabrics but also can appreciate designers trying to rework old into new. This dress by Taxi CDC fills the need we have for this at Shift.

You can visit Shift‘s brick and mortar shop on Cape Cod or anywhere, anytime at www.shiftboutique.com - we ship everywhere.
