“Hand-crafted clothing is good for your health” – is one of the taglines on the new ImillaRoad.com website. Imilla Road began as a New York City pop-up shop showcasing the work of emerging independent fashion designers, and now Imilla Road is “popping up” online. Featuring unique apparel, shoes, swimwear, jewelry and accessories from more than 30 independent designers, ImillaRoad.com features a host of eco-friendly designers who use sustainable, organic and natural materials in their products including accessory designers Knots & Stones, Danica Cosic, Designs by Alicia P, Feel Handmade, and perfumer A Perfume Organic and designers using recycled materials to make clothing like Doucette Duvall and accessory designer Fredrick James. Doucette Duvall: this Gigi Dress in Hot Kiss in 100% Rescued fuchsia silk crepe. Doucette Duvall practices environmental and social responsibility by manufacturing their entire collection in New York City’s historic garment district and using pre-existing, or “rescued” fabric and trim. Ivana Helsinki: from the gorgeous SS11 ‘Where the F%ck is my Sailor‘ collection, this Abby dress in hand-painted cotton sateen is the perfect summer shift! Ivana Helsinki is a Finnish fashion label known for its ethically handmade avant-garde prints. This label is also at the forefront of the slow design movement coming out of Scandinavia. Danica Cosic moved to Marrakech, Morocco in June 2009 after much dreaming of a life filled with travel, creativity and trying to figure out a way to contribute socially through design.
