About

Magnif.eco (adj) 1. Extraordinarily fine, superb, and eco.

We are your daily eco-fashion blog featuring gorgeous products that are fair-trade, recycled, reusable, sustainable, organic, and/or vegan. Where ethics meet aesthetics we feature eco things for yourself, a loved one, your home or the planet.

Every day the amount of information is growing about the Magnifeco options for fashion: from earth friendly fabrics, to sustainable manufacturing processes to fairtrade practices. We feature conscientious designers and products for you the conscientious consumer.

Everything on this site is “click-to-buy.” That means if you like something (and want to buy it) -  just click on the image or the links and a new page will open to the designer/vendor’s shopping page. We do not sell anything ourselves (just advertising on the site – please feel free to click on those too!) nor do we receive payment for featuring products or designers.

If you have any questions or want to recommend something for this site, please visit the contact page or contact us through any of the social media links.

Kate Black, Founder and Managing Editor

Kate was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. She started her daily eco-fashion blog, Magnifeco.com, over a year ago when she was having trouble finding a source for products that are fair-trade, recycled, reusable, sustainable, organic, and/or vegan. She knew that designers were making efforts in those directions but small, independent ones were still hard to find. Magnifeco.com became the place where ethics meet aesthetics.

“I love fashion,” Kate says, “And I’ve been a vegetarian for almost 2 decades, so the natural extension for me was to be as mindful about what I wore as I was about what I ate.” Having lived in Spain, Germany, The Netherlands, Switzerland and now Tokyo – Kate writes about eco-fashion on the global scene. Lahn Matsumoto, Eco-Japonisme Researcher and Blogger

Lahn was born in Tokyo, Japan. She loves the stories that lie behind sustainable and fair fashion and the feeling she gets by wearing and supporting those efforts. “For my seventeenth birthday, my best friend bought me a pair of earrings. But instead of placing it in a conventional jewelry box, she made a paper-maché birthday card and made it look like the  doll on the card was wearing the earrings.” Lahn remembers, “My friend and I had always joked about how awful we both were in art class, so I knew at once that she’d taken painstaking care to make such a beautiful card. Wearing my fair trade earrings is like receiving that one-of-a-kind birthday present again — it invokes the same feeling of warmth, protection, and pride that I have done something, however small, to deserve that affection.” You can reach her: lahn@magnifeco.com

Japonisme refers to the interest foreigners (particularly French) had of Japanese art and items (kimonos, textiles, etc.) during Edo Times. In magnifeco fashion, we have appropriated eco-Japonisme to refer to all things eco and Japanese.
